As Stone Lab turns 100 years old on Gibraltar Island, it’s worth reflecting on the impact the laboratory has had not just on education and research, but surrounding businesses and economies. An unhealthy lake doesn’t just affect anglers, it affects the entire state of Ohio.
In this documentary, I was able to speak with three individuals whose companies are positively affected by the work done at the lab: the Miller Ferry, Jet Express, and Shores and Islands Ohio. Each person spoke to the importance of the lake’s health on their livelihoods. A healthy lake attracts more people through tourism, which increases businesses’ financial success, reach, and impact. When Stone Lab is successful, everyone thrives.
